How does the JWT authentication flow work end to end?
The auth flow uses Spring Security with JWT tokens. Users authenticate via POST /api/v1/auth/login, credentials are validated by AuthenticationManager, and a signed JWT is returned. Every subsequent request passes through JWTTokenFilter which extracts and validates the token from the Authorization header.
Source Code Example:
package com.salesmanager.shop.security;
import javax.servlet.FilterChain;
import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest;
import org.springframework.security.core.Authentication;
@Component
public class JWTTokenFilter extends OncePerRequestFilter {
private final TokenProvider tokenProvider;
private final UserDetailsService userDetailsService;
@Override
protected void doFilterInternal(
HttpServletRequest request,
HttpServletResponse response,
FilterChain chain) {
String token = resolveToken(request);
if (token != null && tokenProvider.validateToken(token)) {
Authentication auth = tokenProvider.getAuthentication(token);
SecurityContextHolder.getContext().setAuthentication(auth);
}
chain.doFilter(request, response);
}
private String resolveToken(HttpServletRequest req) {
String bearer = req.getHeader("Authorization");
if (bearer != null && bearer.startsWith("Bearer ")) {
return bearer.substring(7);
}
return null;
}
}
